The matches not to miss in the World Cup 2022

Put a cross on your calendar! From 20 November to 2 December, all the countries that have qualified for this football World Cup will take on each other and set the tone for this 22nd edition of the football World Cup. Which nations will manage to qualify for the round of 16? We will soon know the answer.

This World Cup will be unusual in many ways, but the football show should be as spectacular as ever. What are the most thrilling matches in this group stage? Here’s a look at five matches not to miss.

Senegal – Netherlands, the warmup (21/11 – 17:00)

Initially scheduled as the opening game, the first big confrontation of this World Cup will put Senegal, African champion title holder, against the reborn Netherlands led by Virgil Van Dijk.

In a relatively tame Group A, the two favorite nations will have the option to directly access the round of 16, as well as the top spot in a group that they share with Qatar, the host country and Ecuador. Without a doubt, the start of this World Cup promises to be thrilling.

France – Denmark, the Bleus’ challenge (26/11 – 17:00)

They can’t leave each other alone! After taking on each other in the Russian World Cup group stage, as well as being in the same group in the Nations League, France and Denmark are paired up again in group D for the World Cup 2022.

The French Team didn’t reassure before this big match. Didier Deschamps' squad has been plagued by injuries and has suffered two setbacks in their last two matches against the Danes. Despite this, the latest world champions remain more than serious candidates for the final victory.

As for the Danish, semi-finalists in the last Euros, they once again have a card to play. The Danes, with their tight-knit team and interesting individuals, have every right to claim something in this World Cup.

Argentina – Mexico, the Mexican trap? (26/11 – 20:00)

Everything has been going well for the Albiceleste for more than a year! The Argentinians are currently having their best unbeaten streak in their history with 35 matches without defeat, but they will have a lot of work to do as they start this World Cup.

Against Lionel Messi’s team, a tough Mexico, who will be playing their 17th football World Cup final in Qatar. A Mexican team that could rightly challenge the certainty of Argentina as the overwhelming favorites.

Spain – Germany, the clash of the group stage (27/11 – 20:00)

Welcome to the death group! It is within the Al-Bayt stadium in Al Khor that Spain and Germany, both candidates for the title, will take each other on. The 2010 world champion against their successor in 2014.

The Spanish youth is gaining momentum and is expected to do well. As for the Mannschaft, they should logically do better than in 2018 when their journey was surprisingly cut short after just 3 group stage matches, but above all erase the painful 6-0 inflicted during their last confrontation in the Nations League. An accident that shouldn’t happen twice!

Croatia – Belgium, the destiny match (1/12 – 16:00)

Of course, this is THE big match in group F where Croatia and Belgium are the definite favorites. As long as Morocco and Canada don’t come and be spoilsports before, this group stage match looks to be decisive.

Especially since the two nations that manage to qualify will cross paths with the group of death in the round of 16. Therefore, it’s a match that could determine the rest of the Devils’ journey if they get good results in their first two matches. They’ve already done it, they can do it again.

While these 5 matches promise to be exciting from a sporting point of view, there will be others with symbolic high stakes. That is notably the case with Iran - United States (29/11 – 20:00). The two countries have long had tense diplomatic relations and the qualification of one or the other could be decided in this last game of group B.
