A lookback at the Circus Cup: the football event of the year in Belgium with Ronaldinho

On 21 September an extraordinary event took place in Belgium inside the Ghelamco Arena in Ghent. The new face of Circus, Ronaldinho, came to visit Belgium to take part in a gala match which saw the legends of Standard de Liège and KAA Gent go head to head.

With more than 17,500 spectators in the stands, the Circus Cup was in no doubt a success for its first edition. Young and old alike were able to watch the man in action as he enchanted the soccer world with his inimitable technique and legendary smile.

The legends were back for the Circus Cup

The concept is simple and efficient. Historic partner of Standard de Liège and more recently KAA Gent, Circus put on a great spread to give football fans a celebratory and fun time.

Several former Rouches stars and ex-Buffalos who have marked the history of the club were there for this unique event. Oguchi Onyewu, Jelle Van Damme, Jonathan Legear, Edmilson Sr., Medhi Carcela, and Jean-François Gillet among others defended Standard’s colors, while Mido, Khalilou Fadiga, Nicolas Lombaerts, Frédéric Herpoel, Gunther Schepens, Nordin Jbari and many more donned the Gent shirt for this special evening.

Ronaldinho left his mark on the game

Of course with the number 10 on his back, Ronaldinho was invited into the Buffalos’ camp for the first half that saw Standard take the lead. Jonathan Legear and Gonzague Vandooren managed to beat Fred Herpoel with a lively atmosphere inside the Ghelamco Arena. It was 0-2 at half time. A half time where the spectators were able to watch a Brazilian show while waiting for the players to come back on the pitch.

In the second half, R10 changed sides. Neto reduced the gap for Ghent before the star of the day was awarded a penalty, which he converted without any trouble. A few minutes later, Ronaldinho did it again and secured the score of the match at 2-4. Therefore, Standard won the Circus Cup! Celebration was in order.

There is no doubt that the former Brazilian number 10 has lost none of his remarkable touch on the ball and didn’t hold back from some small tricks and blind passes to delight the fans.

One thing is for sure, the Circus Cup didn’t disappoint and the sports betting brand’s ambassador will never be far away. The World Cup is approaching and there are rumors that a Challenge with Ronaldinho in the spotlight is being prepared at Circus. Stay tuned to enjoy even more surprises!
